Yes, this happened to my cat once he got up there in age. It got to an Official Cats Mama Shirt. He’d stop for a little while if I came out of my room and comforted him, but he’d usually start again a few hours later. One of my cats would howl at night too. He ended up spending most of her time in my arms purring and making kitten chirping sounds. His also played with cat toys which were interesting because she’d never shown interest in them previously. It really depends on the individual case. Sometimes the animal gets confused and scared.
